A new generation of AI sales development representatives has moved from venture pitch decks into actual production deployments at mid-market and enterprise sales organizations. Vendors including 11x, AiSDR, Regie.ai, and Artisan have collectively raised more than half a billion dollars over the past eighteen months on the promise that autonomous outbound agents can replicate the productivity of a human SDR at a fraction of the cost.
Early-stage adopters report mixed but improving results. One VP of revenue operations at a B2B software company said the team’s first AI SDR pilot in early 2025 produced a meeting rate roughly half of what human SDRs achieved on comparable accounts, but a re-run six months later with refined prompting and tightened targeting delivered meeting rates within ten percentage points of the human baseline at roughly a fifth of the cost.
The competitive landscape has consolidated around a small number of platforms with significantly different architectural choices. 11x and Artisan emphasize end-to-end autonomous workflows, with the AI agent making decisions about timing, messaging, and follow-up cadence without human review. Regie.ai and similar vendors take a more conservative approach, having AI handle the heavy lifting of personalization while keeping the cadence design and quality control in human hands.
The CRO-level concern is deliverability. As AI-generated outbound volume increases across the broader B2B email ecosystem, complaint rates and spam folder placement have begun to creep upward for senders who haven’t invested in domain reputation management. One sales leader at a publicly traded enterprise software company said the deliverability risk has become the primary brake on scaling AI SDR programs beyond initial pilots.
For sales leaders evaluating AI SDR vendors, the practical question is whether the vendor’s architecture supports human-in-the-loop quality control, how the vendor handles email deliverability infrastructure, and what guardrails exist against escalating volume to the point where reply rates collapse. The cost savings are real, but they evaporate quickly when domain reputation is damaged.
