Salesforce used the week of Dreamforce 2026 to formalize the architecture behind its year-old Agentforce push: a six-part framework it calls the Trusted Enterprise AI Harness, spanning shared context, reasoning with hard controls, action across systems, governance, security, and model choice, delivered through what it calls a common AI Control Plane.
The pitch is that no single system, CRM, ERP, contracts, or analytics, holds enough context on its own to answer a question as simple as whether an order can ship today. The Harness is built to connect those systems so an agent can reason across all of them while sensitive actions, financial approvals and customer entitlements among them, still execute through deterministic rules rather than a probabilistic guess. “The Agentic Enterprise won’t be defined by which model a company chooses,” said Rohan Kumar, President, Chief Platform and Engineering Officer at Salesforce, framing proprietary customer context, not model selection, as the real differentiator. Rocket Mortgage CTO Shawn Malhotra said the composable design let his team keep the freedom to adapt as the AI landscape shifts rather than commit to one closed stack.
The original insight for RevOps buyers is what the Harness is actually solving for: it is a governance and interoperability layer, not a return-on-investment argument. It answers whether an agent can be trusted to act inside enterprise rules, not whether that action pays for itself. Every customer named in the announcement, including Rocket Mortgage, spoke about control and flexibility, not adoption rates or cost per resolved task. Buyers evaluating Agentforce or any competing platform sold on similar trust language should ask for the two categories of proof separately rather than assuming a strong governance demo answers both.
Salesforce’s decision to post-train its own reasoning model and its broader build-versus-rent AI strategy both sit on top of this same governance architecture, which is the connective layer the company is betting the rest of its AI roadmap on.
