Artisan, the startup behind AI business development representative Ava, closed a \ million Series A led by Glade Brook Capital with participation from HubSpot Ventures, Day One Ventures, BOND, and Soma Capital. The round brings total funding to \.6 million across six rounds and positions the company to compete directly with established sales engagement platforms adding autonomous features.
Ava automates the full top-of-funnel workflow: prospect identification, research, hyper-personalized message generation, multi-channel outreach across email and social, and meeting booking. The system operates on a multi-agent architecture with a real-time context engine that identifies buying signals including job postings, funding announcements, and leadership changes to trigger timely outreach.
The HubSpot Ventures participation signals strategic alignment with the CRM ecosystem where many of Artisan’s target customers already operate. CRM integration with Salesforce and HubSpot is native, removing the middleware layer that standalone AI SDR tools typically require.
Artisan reports over \ million in annual recurring revenue with 37 employees, translating to approximately \,000 in revenue per employee, a metric that reflects the capital efficiency thesis behind AI-native companies. CEO Jaspar Carmichael-Jack has positioned the company against the “stop hiring humans” narrative, arguing that customer GTM teams grow after deploying Ava as staff redirect toward higher-leverage relationship work.
The funding arrives as the AI SDR category faces its first credibility test. Competitors like 11x.ai have encountered scrutiny over metrics, while incumbents including Outreach and Apollo are building autonomous capabilities into platforms that already hold customer data and workflow history. Artisan’s bet is that a purpose-built AI BDR delivers better outcomes than autonomous features bolted onto legacy architectures.
