Velocity Commerce, the B2B sales and order management platform built by MedShift, earned Shopify’s “Built for Shopify” designation this week, the marketplace’s highest level of app recognition and a rare third-party validation for the unglamorous back-office layer of field sales tech.
What happened: the designation, awarded for meeting Shopify’s standards on quality, performance, design, and merchant experience, covers Velocity Commerce’s core function for B2B teams, managing sales representatives, distributors, territories, and commission rules while letting field reps onboard customers, place orders, and track status without leaving Shopify. The platform is also sold standalone for businesses on other ecommerce systems. MedShift disclosed usage numbers alongside the announcement: more than 80 Shopify merchants, over 600 active sales representatives, and more than 24,500 orders facilitated to date. “Earning the Built for Shopify designation validates our commitment to delivering a solution that meets Shopify’s highest standards while solving the operational challenges B2B sales organizations face every day,” said Joe Gasque, CEO of MedShift.
Why it matters: territory mapping, commission automation, and rep management are exactly the systems that fragment first as a distributed B2B sales team scales, forcing manual reconciliation across a CRM, an ERP, and a spreadsheet nobody fully trusts. Velocity Commerce syncs with existing ERP, CRM, and accounting systems rather than replacing them, positioning itself as the connective layer for order-to-cash rather than another system of record competing for the same seat.
The original insight: a marketplace certification is a small event on its own, but it is a proxy for something sales enablement buyers usually cannot verify directly, that the vendor’s integration and data-handling practices meet a third party’s bar rather than only its own marketing claims. For a sales operations leader evaluating field sales or commission tooling built to sit inside an existing ecommerce or CRM stack, an independent platform certification, paired with disclosed usage numbers rather than vague adoption claims, is a more useful diligence signal than a feature list, closer in spirit to the scrutiny analyst firms now apply to compensation and performance management vendors.
