Apollo has been named a flagship launch partner for Hunter, the new outbound sales agent Salesforce introduced at Dreamforce this week, giving Hunter direct access to Apollo’s network of 240 million contacts even for Salesforce customers who never subscribed to Apollo separately. The integration lets Hunter research accounts, find prospects, enrich contact records and flag outreach-timing signals using seven Apollo prospecting actions built into the agent, backed by a contact database Apollo says delivers 98 percent email accuracy. Hunter is currently in pilot, with general availability planned for November.
The deal matters less for what it adds to Hunter than for what it admits about agentic prospecting generally: an AI sales agent is only as good as the data feeding it, and even the largest CRM vendor does not own enough first-party contact data to run outbound agents without renting a specialist’s database. “Agents are only as effective as the data they can access,” said Rohan Punamia, VP of Product Management at Salesforce, adding that the partnership gives customers “the prospecting data and signals they need to grow revenue, without a separate Apollo subscription to manage.” Scott Singerman, VP of Partnerships at Apollo, called the integration “a real unlock for customers,” noting that “thousands of teams already run Apollo alongside Salesforce, and are increasingly adopting AI workflows for their GTM.”
The original insight for RevOps buyers is that this is becoming the standard shape of AI-agent economics, not an exception: the reasoning layer and the data layer are being sold and priced separately, sometimes by different vendors bundled into one seat, which means the real total cost of an “AI SDR” now includes whichever contact database sits underneath it even when that cost is not itemized on the invoice. Buyers evaluating any of the newer job-shaped sales agents should ask what data source powers prospecting specifically, since a bundled Apollo-style partnership can quietly disappear or reprice after the pilot period the way other Salesforce agent integrations have been kept deliberately separate from the core Agentforce product.
