Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Loops, an AI analytics platform that explains why business metrics change, and plans to fold its technology and talent into Tableau.

What happened

Salesforce announced the agreement on October 12. Loops monitors business performance continuously, explains why key metrics move and surfaces opportunities to improve, using machine learning models. Salesforce says Loops can be triggered directly from Slack and email to monitor key performance indicators and identify trends and anomalies.

Salesforce expects the deal to close in early November of its fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. After the close it plans to bring Loops’s technology and specialized talent into Tableau.

Why it matters

Mark Recher, EVP and GM of Tableau at Salesforce, said Loops will use agentic AI to “uncover the drivers behind business performance and surface where teams and agents can take action in real time.” Loops CEO Tom Laufer described the company’s premise as analytics that help businesses “understand what drives their results and decide what to do next.”

Salesforce has now announced several purchases around its core CRM this year. We covered the most recent, Salesforce’s agreement to acquire Listen Labs, on September 30, and the completed Fin acquisition in September.

What it means for the sales leader

In our reading, a tool that explains a metric movement is most useful to the people who own the number. For a revenue team that means pipeline coverage, win rate and cycle length. If Loops reaches Tableau customers as described, a forecast call could start with a written explanation of what moved the number since last week. The release does not say when that arrives or which Salesforce products will carry it, so ask your account team for the roadmap before building a process around it.
