Salesforce signed a definitive agreement on October 20 to acquire Braze, a customer engagement platform, for about $5.66 billion in enterprise value.
What happened
According to Salesforce’s release, Braze holders of Class A common stock will receive $47.50 in cash per share. The deal has not closed. Salesforce expects it to close in its fiscal year 2028, subject to approval by Braze’s shareholders and required regulatory approvals, and says it anticipates no change to its FY27 guidance. Braze serves approximately 2,770 customers, including Canva, Dairy Queen, Instacart, Urban Outfitters and Venmo, and its platform is optimized for high-volume, real-time B2C engagement across mobile apps, websites, email, SMS and WhatsApp.
Why it matters
Salesforce says Braze’s real-time engagement and AI decisioning are expected to complement four layers of its architecture: Data 360, Customer 360, Agentforce and SIForce. Within Customer 360, the company expects Braze to strengthen Marketing Cloud’s cross-channel personalization. Patrick Stokes, President, Applications and Marketing at Salesforce, said bringing Braze together with Marketing Cloud, CRM and Data 360 “will deliver that wow moment in every customer interaction.”
The pattern matches the one we described when we looked at Salesforce’s five acquisitions and the layers each adds around its AI agents. We also covered the agreement to acquire Loops.
One original insight
Braze’s release language is about B2C marketers, so the direct beneficiary is the marketing team at a consumer brand. For sales and RevOps leaders the practical issue sits further down the line: behavior signals that Braze captures in the moment would reach CRM records only if Salesforce connects them after the close. Until the deal closes, the two companies operate separately, and any integration plan is a statement of intent. In our reading, RevOps teams that run Salesforce should ask their account team now which customer-behavior fields would flow into CRM and who would own the field definitions.
